The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is the joint where your bottom mouth connects to your skull. You have two TMJs, each is located just in front of your ear. The joint can be felt with your fingers while you are chewing or opening your mouth.
Factors such as stress, clenching or grinding teeth, excessive gum chewing, injury or arthritis can cause the TMJ to become inflamed. This can cause localized pain in the joint, headaches and difficulty chewing.
Dr. Warren can diagnose TMJ disorder by checking your TMJ for inflammation and by assessing other contributing health and dental factors. If you are diagnosed with TMJ disorder, we can provide advice on how you can reduce the stress on the joint. We may also refer you to a dental or medical specialist in Edmonton for further treatment.
If you are suffering from chronic jaw pain or headaches, give us a call to book a TMJ disorder examination.
