Our Dental Services - Porcelain Veneers
Veneers are used to close spaces between teeth (see case below), to change the shape or shade of teeth or to straighten teeth which appear crooked due to rotation or tipping. This is a very conservative procedure as minimal tooth reduction (removal) is required. However, this procedure is not recommended for patients who grind or clench their teeth as the porcelain can chip or fracture. The shade of the veneers will not change with time as the porcelain material doesn't stain.

Procedure
Veneers typically require two visits. At the first visit, a thin layer of enamel is removed from the visible portion of the tooth surface. Impressions of the prepared teeth surfaces are made and of the opposite dentition. Temporary acrylic veneers are made to cover and protect the prepared surfaces while the porcelain veneers are being made in the lab. These temporary veneers can help the patient and dentist decide if any adjustments in the design need to be made prior to making the porcelain veneers.
At the second visit, the temporary veneers are removed and the prepared tooth surfaces are cleaned. The porcelain veneers can be tried on with a temporary cement to ensure shade is right and it can be varied if required. The final step involves "bonding" or attaching the porcelain veneers to the prepared tooth surfaces using light-cured cement.
