Our Dental Services - Implant Retained Crowns
A dental implant is used to anchor a crown, bridge or removable denture, in cases where one or more natural teeth are missing. They are made of titanium and are strong and very biocompatible.
The benefits of Dental Implants are:
- They eliminate the need to prepare healthy tooth structure adjacent to spaces caused by missing or extracted teeth.
- They may eliminate the need for removable partial dentures.
- They help stabilize loose fitting complete dentures.
Procedure
Dental implants are placed surgically within the jawbone to replace a missing tooth or teeth. In some instances, the patient's own bone may be harvested from a suitable donor site to add additional bone to the implant site for sufficient bone volume. Other types of bone may also be used to help stabilize the dental implant.
After an adequate time period for healing has occurred, a crown or bridge may be anchored to the dental implant to replace the lost or missing teeth.
The surgical phase of the dental implant treatment requires one or two appointments depending on whether a graft or additional bone to the proposed site is required.
The restorative phase of the treatment usually requires at least two appointments to complete and typically requires no anesthetic.
